Storytelling With Data

  • Define data storytelling and why reports need a clear narrative
  • Explore the science behind effective visualizations
  • Apply Gestalt principles and pre-attentive attributes
  • Use Agile techniques to gather requirements
  • Convert business questions into a usable Power BI data model

Designing and Building Power BI Reports

  • Apply page design concepts, layout, balance, contrast, and repetition
  • Choose the right chart type for the right business purpose
  • Build and format Power BI visuals
  • Use conditional formatting, reference lines, tables, sparklines, and AI visuals
  • Create a report dashboard that communicates insights at a glance

Publishing, Dashboards, and Workspaces

  • Publish reports to the Power BI Service
  • Compare dashboards, reports, semantic models, and datasets
  • Work with My Workspace and collaborative Workspaces
  • Apply workspace security roles
  • Create dashboards using static and live tiles

Filters, Slicers, and Advanced Report Navigation

  • Configure visual, page-level, and report-level filters
  • Build slicers for interactive report filtering
  • Create drill-through pages and tooltip pages
  • Capture report states with bookmarks

Note about the Certification Exam

When you register for the course, you will be prompted to choose Y/N to take the exam. Please select yes, as all HHS CISO employees are required to attempt the exam if one is offered for the course. Please be advised, if your course if funded by DIR, the Certification Organization has agreed to provide DIR the pass/fail status of your exam. DIR will only share this information in an aggregated report to state leadership that reflects total exam pass or fails. No individual names of any students will be included in any reports.

DIR requires that you submit the request for your exam voucher within one month of the last day of your course. DIR requires that you take your exam within six months of the last day of your course.
